The tz_mexico shapefile (zip, sha1) captures the TZ timezones of Mexico.

All the geometries are the result of simple operations on a map of the municipalities of Mexico available from https://blog.diegovalle.net/2013/02/download-shapefiles-of-mexico.html.

Logical description of the zones

America/Cancun: Quintana Roo state

America/Merida: Campeche and Yucatán states

America/Matamoros:

• Coahuila de Zaragoza state: Ocampo, Acuña, Zaragoza, Jiménez, Piedras Negras, Nava, Guerrero and Hidalgo municipalities
• Nuevo León state: Anáhuac and Los Aldamas municipalities
• Tamaulipas state: Nuevo Laredo, Guerrero, Mier, Miguel Alemán, Camargo, Gustavo Díaz Ordaz, Reynosa, Río Bravo, Valle Hermoso, and Matamoros municipalities

America/Monterrey: Durango state and rest of Coahuila de Zaragoza, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas states.

America/Ojinaga:

• Chihuahua state: Janos, Ascensión, Juárez, Guadalupe, Praxedis G. Guerrero, Coyame del Sotol, Ojinaga and Manuel Benavides municipalities

America/Chihuahua: rest of Chihuahua state.

America/Hermosillo: Sonora state

America/Bahia_Banderas:

• Nayarit state: Bahía de Banderas municipality.

America/Mazatlan: Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Baja California Sur state and rest of Nayarit state.

America/Tijuana: Baja California state

America/Mexico_City: rest of Mexico.

Construction of the shapefile

The ingredients (zip, sha1) contain a script to build the map from the source.
